It was rebuilt and now stands substantially as it did over a century ago amidst multiple alleys of mature, majestic, moss draped oaks. Furnishings include beautiful 1830 original Barrow family pieces. Also displayed are pieces from the many movies filmed on location. Downtown St. Francisville

W. FELICIANA HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM
225-635-6330 ∙ 11757 Ferdinand St.

The West Feliciana Historical Society played a great part in leading the way for the preservation of the Historic District in St. Francisville . Along with the City of St. Francisville, the Mayor and Town Council, the Historic District Commission, St.Francisville Main Street and the West Feliciana Tourism Commission, the Historical Society works toward preserving this unique, wonderful jewel of culture and people ... St.Francisville.

HISTORIC DISTRICT
St. Francisville’s Historic District is essentially a living museum, with many of the town’s original homes now standing fully restored as primary residences.  In the downtown area, historic buildings are marked with a small sign in the front yard with the year the home was built, original owner, and its historical significance.

HISTORIC CHURCHES
With history comes religion, and St. Francisville definitely has both.  In downtown St. Francisville, there are threehistoric churches and a synagogue that have been bringing the community together since they were founded.  Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church sits atop the hill just before geteting to the Mississippi River and was built in1871.

Grace Episcopal Church was completed in 1860 and in 1863, was damaged in the Civil War, but was repaired in 1893.

The United Methodist Church was originally built in Bayour Sara in 1844, but was moved up the hill to St. Francisville in the 1940’s.  A must see are the rounded, hand-built pews.
In the 1800’s, St. Francisville had a thriving Jewish community.  Many arrived around 1850, just as cotton was turning St. Francisville into a trading hub.  Upon their arrival from Germany, many jews migrated up the Mississippi River, settling into small towns such as St. Francisville.  Temple Sinai is shown left.

Events & Festivals

One of the highlights of living in St. Francisville is the myriad of events that the town offers almost monthly.  The Yellow Leaf Festival, the Tunica Hills Music Fest, Walker Percy Weekend (he was an author), Christmas in the Country, the Day the War Stopped (civil war re-enactment), the Food & Wine Festival (huge), The Witches Ride (huge), The Angola Prison Rodeo (beyond huge) which is held twice yearly in the spring and fall, July 4th celebrations.   Throw in antique car shows, random art workshops, a Banjo workshop at the library every Wednesday, random concerts, Vibes in the Ville, which offers live music weekly in the summer, and the list goes on and on.
