Films at the Manship Theatre
Leave the X-Men to the megaplex. Each month, the Manship Theatre offers a slate of films, from modern classics to engaging new documentaries and locally-produced stories. Here’s what’s in store this month:
October 5: The Laughing Man (2021)—Baton Rouge’s own Zack Godshall’s incredibly intimate, tragicomic portrait of Thomas Alan Williamson, who is best known for his infectious laugh. Despite living a life plagued by tragedy, mental illness, and homelessness, Williamson expresses a unique joy that defines his character. The film will be followed by a panel discussion about issues of homelessness. 7:30 pm. $9.50.
October 13–14: Moonage Daydream (2022)—From filmmaker Brett Morgan, a cinematic odyssey exploring the life of David Bowie. 7:30 pm. $9.50
October 26: The Last Champion—A story of crushed dreams upon the familiar and beloved backdrop of high school sports, and what comes after. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Glenn Withrow. 7:30 pm. $8.50.
October 27: Psycho—Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic classic about a secretary on the run after stealing money from her boss who has the misfortune of stopping at the Bates Motel for the night, where she meets Norman Bates—who has a very peculiar relationship with his mother. See it digitally remastered for the big screen. 7:30 pm. $9.50.
